With summer fast approaching, Slough Cricket Club is gearing up for yet another action-packed season.

Founded in 1849, the club has produced some fine talents over the years, most notably Ian Gould, former Middlesex and England player.

Sporting the colours of gold and maroon, the club has been a steady competitor in the Thames Valley League for the past 50 years. The club’s recent successes across their teams are apparent. The club has won 3 Home Counties Premier Cricket League T20 Cups since 2012.

Elroy Hull, current 1st XI scorer and a past player, has been a prominent figure at Slough Cricket club for the last 52 years. After an extensive career as an all-rounder for the club, he decided to try his hand at scoring.

For the last 15 years, Hull has been 1st XI scorer, and his excellent work hasn’t gone unnoticed. In 2022, he had the opportunity to score for the one-day international match between England and India at Lord’s.

The magnitude of this event was recognised by Hull, who described it as the pinnacle of his scoring career.

Whilst Elroy has performed on the top stage, his focus still very much lies with Slough CC. The last few years have provided both ups and downs with both demotions and a 2nd division championship win. Having regained 1st division status in 2021, the 1st XI were relegated last year, after a protracted losing streak towards the back end of the season.

With the first fixture of the 2023/24 campaign taking place next month, Elroy is ‘hoping for a better season’ this year. With a new Pakistani professional joining the squad for the coming season, the promotion push could be strengthened.

When asked about the most rewarding aspects of his scoring role, Elroy was quick to acknowledge the ‘camaraderie’ between scorers, and the enjoyment he finds in meeting other teams. His 52-year involvement with the club is undoubtedly impressive with many more matches left to score.
