Windsor F.C Chairman Mr Stott reveals that parts of the club are run on the basis of a Japanese philosophy focused on constant improvement.

Windsor F.C is a football club based in Windsor, with its home ground now at Holloway Park, Beaconsfield. The club was created in 2011 after the dissolution of Windsor and Eton F.C. Currently, according to Mr Stott, they have approximately 1000 players in the Windsor, Old Windsor and Eton areas, most of whom range from ages 6-16.

Mr Stott said “We adopt the Japanese philosophy Kaizen in this regard.” When answering a question about further expansions to the Youth program.

Kaizen is a post-WWII approach created in Japan with the aim of constant improvement, and is used in many corporations over there, including Toyota. Traditionally it has only been used for increasing efficiency in factories and usually under different environments than here in Berkshire. The key principles include the involvement of all employees, a focus on small, manageable changes, and a commitment to ongoing enhancement.

The Youth program for the club is already an object of pride across the area, with its aim being to provide a “pathway into U18’s Football and the First Team, and on into the professional game if ability and opportunity allows.” Windsor F.C has also signed a formal link with Reading, making it easier for young players at the club here to progress in their development. An exciting prospect for young footballers.

The club undoubtedly view football as having  a massive role in the community and bringing people together, especially young people, with Mr Stott viewing it as “an important metaphor for life.” The Chairman’s removal of the playing budget years ago, shows how keen the club are on creating a home-grown and passionate team, rather than a group of individuals playing for money. With this mindset, it is clear to see why the club need to focus on the youth, and Mr Stott’s adoption of Kaizen might be the way to best deliver his ideas on how the club should progress, given its already large success in nurturing almost 1000 players.
