THERE was only one RDAA club out on the venues last Sunday and that was Tilehurst Royal British Legion who were fishing the Beat 4B stretch of the River Kennet, writes Alan Hughes.

This stretch of the Kennet has been fishing very consistently this season with some good nets of perch and roach.

There have also been reports that pleasure anglers have been catching some good numbers of bream from the Foudry Brook mouth, but these have not shown in matches.

The removal of the Floating Pennywort by RDAA has gone a long way to improving this fishery.

Fred Jones won the match netting 6lbs 8ozs of perch and roach from the swim known as “the coffin”.

The runner-up was Steve O’Keefe, who had similar species which weighed in at 5lbs 15ozs and completing the trio was Andy Chapman with 4lbs 6ozs of the same species..

The “Tuesday Club” visited Longwater Lake in Green Park for their match, hoping to catch some of the resident bream and tench.

Only one bream was caught and that went to George Callaghan and along with some silvers, he won the match with 12lbs 9ozs.

Second place was claimed by Terry Littlewoood with an all silver which totalled 9lbs 8ozs. Arthur Maybanks completed the top trio with 4lbs 14ozs of silvers.

Saturday, September 7 will see the last in the present series of RDAA Angling Tuition free lessons.

There are still spaces available so book in at www.rdaa.co.uk and follow Angling Tuition on front page.

We may do a couple of extra dates in September.

The next two Sundays, August 25 and September 1, will be association matches on the River Kennet.

The draw for the August match will be at Farnham Flint and the September one at Green Park due to the Reading Triathlon being held then.
