TOM Browne from Thatcham Town is one of several new signings made by Reading City manager Simon Johnson.

The experienced left-back made 175 appearances for the Kingfishers, helping them to win the Hellenic League title in the 2017-18 season, but did not play in their FA Vase triumph at Wembley.

Browne has also played for Hungerford, Didcot and AFC Aldermaston.

City have further strengthened their defence by signing right-back Arthur Furness from Welsh League Division One club Risca United, centre-back Steve Lee from Berks County, and full-back Jamaal Whight from Aldermaston.

Johnson's other new acquisitions include winger Joe Bainbrigge, previously with Oxford United Academy, JMA graduate McKoy Palmer, a winger who has played for Marlow, winger Nathan Shamuyarira from Holyport and Joe Allen who has played for Mildenhall Town, Thetford Town and Lakenheath.

Forward Mo Davies has re-signed, but City have lost left-back Matt Deadfield to Hellenic League rivals Binfield and midfielder Ousman Darboe to Bracknell Town.

City have appointed 36-year-old Shaun Allaway as their goalkeeping coach. He started his professional career at Reading FC and went on play for Leeds, Grimsby and Walsall before having non-league experience with Slough and Staines.

City have been drawn away to Hellenic League Premier Division rivals Windsor in the extra preliminary round of the Emirates FA Cup on August 10 with the winners home to Moneyfields two weeks later.

They will be away to Abingdon United or Eversley & California in the second qualifying round of the Buildbase FA Vase on September 14.
