GEORGE Green Juniors Wildcats held a World Cup Girls Football Festival on Saturday.

After the success that

George Green Juniors

Wildcats had shown throughout the last year, which included walking around the pitch at Wembley before the Women’s FA Cup Final, the Football Association awarded the club the chance to hold a World Cup Girls Football Festival.

With temperatures reaching 30 degrees, there was over 100 girls from local clubs and surrounding areas taking part, some playing in a tournament for the very first time.

There were two age groups, the Under 10s had six teams in their group and went down to goal difference, when Aylesbury held off Slough Town.

The U12s had eight teams split into two groups, with the top team from each getting the chance to play for the winning trophy.

In a very close-fought encounter Farnham Royal Mavericks come out on top winning the final 1-0 against Bedfont.

Organiser

Stephen Hale

was immensely proud and said: “The opportunity for girls to play football in the local area of Slough has increased massively over the last two years.

“For a relatively small club, for George Green Juniors to be given the chance to showcase girls football in the middle of what has been a successful World Cup, made me very proud.

“The girls always had a smile on their face and played the game in the right spirit, helping the other players get up when making a foul, shaking hands after each and every game but, more importantly, enjoying playing football and having fun.”
