SLOUGH captain Max Miles has full confidence in the Greenies to get the wins they need to avoid relegation from Southern Counties North this season, writes Rob Stevens.

Slough were promoted as champions of the Berks, Bucks & Oxon Premier last season but just three wins in 13 matches this term sees them second from bottom in the league table and seven points from safety.

Miles has acknowledged the Greenies face two must-win games as Reading visit Tamblyn Fields this Saturday, before a trip to Reading Abbey on 26th January, and he admits Slough must prepare right mentally for each match.

He told the Observer: "It's getting a little bit perilous but we've got the teams around is in the next few weeks.

"Before Christmas, we had to play the teams towards the top, those that are trying to get promoted, so it was always going to be tough.

"The game against Reading this Saturday will be one of our biggest of the season in terms of trying to turn our fortunes around. These are must-win games against the teams closes to us, but they'll be looking at it the same.

"We all know we have to win if we want to stay in this league otherwise you've got to beat the likes of Windsor and Buckingham, which is a lot tougher.

"We have full confidence in ourselves to get the wins we need to stay up."

Miles added: "We're definitely still hurting from the defeat at Reading earlier in the season. We had just beaten Marlow but went with completely the wrong mindset and attitude.

"We need to put in a performance that we know we're capable of and hopefully that will be good enough to get the win."

He continued: "We lost to Littlemore the week before last, which took us by surprise, but we were not ready for it after the Christmas break.

"It's the same team week-in-week-out and we know that we're good enough ability and fitness-wise, so it's about our mindset.

"We went into the Littlemore game thinking it would be an easy match for us to get back into things after Christmas, but we knew Marlow would be tougher.

"We have to prepare in the right way mentally for each game."
