A piece of Maidenhead’s historical heritage is featured in a new crime book.

New Swan Stone chronicles the story of a pilot in the Air Transport Auxiliary (ATA) who ends up at the centre of a murder mystery investigation.

It is expected to be the first in a series of books called Lizzie’s War.

The ATA, which started life at White Waltham airfield in 1940, is celebrated in a museum at Maidenhead Heritage Centre.

It was responsible for delivering new aircraft from factories to combat bases and for transporting important personnel around.

Speaking about the book, author Kevin O’Regan said: “It’s a classic whodunnit. All the clues are contained in the text but of course the reader has to spot them and try to work out who is the culprit. It is an ideal Christmas read.”

The Maidenhead Heritage Centre has copies of the book for sale.
