Yellow weather warnings have been issued for Burnley and Bacup.

After a sunny weekend, the weather is expected to return to its previous gloom, with a yellow weather warning forecasted by the Met Office for Burnley and Bacup this afternoon.

The heavy thunderstorms will styart at 12pm and continue on till 12am.

There may be some flooding and disruption to travel in both towns, and the Met Office advise people to take extra caution when travelling.

A statement from the MET Office said: “Although some places will miss them, heavy showers and thunderstorms will break out in some areas this afternoon.

Where thunderstorms do occur, torrential rain and frequent lightning is expected as well as a chance of gusty winds and hail here and there.

“A few spots could see as much as 30 mm rain in an hour and 40 to 60 mm rain in two or three hours.”

Trains and bus services may see cancellations if the tracks are flooded.
