STUDENTS at St Wilfrid’s Academy were overjoyed at their results as they celebrated outside the school.

For the second year in a row, the Blackburn school recorded its highest percentage of grades eight and nine.

Tim Roper worked hard to achieve his six 9s and three 8s.

He said: “I did put in a lot of hard work and revision, so it paid off.

“I’m going to study chemistry, biology, maths and history for A-Level now.

“To celebrate I’m going to eat food for lunch and then more food later.”

Jessica Toase was delighted with her three 9 grades in English, art, and RE.

She said: “It was difficult, but I did well and I’m really happy.

“It’s a really good school and teachers have helped me a lot.”

Her mum, Katherine Toase, said: “We could not have wished for better for Jessica.

“I always knew that she would do well because she does put the work in.”

Parsha Banuraja thanked the school for its help and support.

She said: “There has been good support from the school during the year and even my mum and dad will be over the moon.”

Another student, Sian Cullen, said: “I’m really happy and did not expect to get more than one 9, I was thinking it would be more 8 grades.

“I came with my parents and they are both really proud of me.

“I am going to study art, psychology and criminology now, and can’t wait to celebrate.”

Principal Cath Huddleston said: “We are thrilled with this year’s results and delighted with the accomplishments of our students.

“Their effort throughout the year, along with their commitment to their revision and the incredible support from teachers and parents, have led to this success.

"I wish all of our students the very best for the future and look forward to seeing many of them continue their educational journey with us in our Sixth Form.”
