A SUPERMARKET is set to close just five years after it opened.
Morrisons announced plans to close its store in Crawley High Street.
It has launched a consultation process with staff to reduce redundancies.
More than 100 people could lose their jobs.
The news came despite plans by the retailer to open four new UK shops, none of which will be in Sussex.
A Morrisons spokeswoman said: “As we continue to focus on building a broader, stronger Morrisons we are constantly reviewing opportunities for new stores and the performance of our existing estate.
"We are planning to invest in four new stores this year and are today, regrettably, proposing to close our Crawley store.
"We will now be going through a consultation process at the store and will be discussing how to reduce redundancies and, where possible, redeploy our highly valued colleagues within the business.”
