A MISS England finalist has launched a campaign to help homeless people ahead of the final of Miss England 2019.

Current Miss Lancashire, Aysha Khan from Blackburn, will compete in the final at the Newbridge Hotel in Newcastle tomorrow.

The Miss England finalist is busy working on a campaign using the hashtag #HereForTheHomeless.

Miss Khan wants to raise awareness of the plight of homelessness in the region.

She said: “Homeless people can be stuck in a cycle because of their mental health.

“I want to discover how accessible help is for them and if there is a clear way for them to get it.

“If I can’t find a service then I will try to start one.”

The 20-year-old has been working with Hands of Hope in Blackburn, where she has spent time speaking to homeless people about the problems they face.

Miss Khan has raised money for various charities, such as Variety children’s charity and suicide prevention charity Papyrus.

Through the campaign, Miss Khan wants to help homeless people get off the street.

She said: “We live in a very developed country, homelessness should not even exist.

“Even if some may have drug issues, it’s a cycle they can’t get out of and need support.

“These people are in a hard place and even people who are not homeless still go to shelters because they are struggling.”

After highlighting the problems, Miss Khan says she hopes people will not look down on homeless people, but realise they are human too and treat them with compassion.

She said: “Even if people just spoke to them, it would make their day.

“Homeless people are still human and when you do not treat them well then it takes away their humanity.

“Anyone who is interested in getting involved can contact me on Facebook, searching for Aysha Khan.”

The Miss England finalist recently made a stir with her entry for the beach beauty round where she opted to wear a wetsuit instead of a bikini.

Now, the young hopeful will compete for the crown to become the next Miss England 2019.
