Supporters of Windsor's Thames Hospice walked in memory of their loved ones on Saturday in the stunning surroundings of Virginia Water's historic lake.

The hospice in Hatch Lane benefitted from the biggest turn out of participants in the Sunflower Walk's five-year history. An incredible 500 local people took part – choosing a 4k, 6.5k or 13k route around the historic lake in Surrey.

Alison Evans, head of community and events fundraising at Thames Hospice, said: “We are overwhelmed with how many people came to support us this year. It was a lovely day, in beautiful surroundings. We must also thank our volunteers who kindly gave up their time to man the route and cheer on our walkers at the finish line.”

Patricia Vella took part in the Sunflower Walk alongside her family and friends, walking in memory of her daughter Tracy, who passed away at Thames Hospice in 2009.

Patricia said: “It has been 10 years since Tracy passed away and it was just lovely to do something together as a family to celebrate her life. Thames Hospice is unbelievably wonderful. It is a place you know your family and friends are going to be looked after. Every little bit of help and support they can get is well worth everybody’s time.”

Supporters who walked in memory of a loved one were given the opportunity to leave a message on the special Memory Tree.

The Sunflower Walk was supported by Reliance Worldwide Corporation and Conference Contacts.
