WINDSOR, Slough, Eton & Hounslow (WSEH) Athletics Club travelled to Swansea at the weekend to contest the first match in Division One of the British Athletics League.

The team was hit by the unavailability of several key athletes, plus late withdrawals, nonetheless those present rallied to ensure that the gaps were covered.

amassed a total of 268 points to finish behind match winners, Thames Valley Harriers (372), with Swansea Harriers (364) in second place and City of Liverpool (332) third.

The match started on a high note with maximum points being gained in the opening track event, the 400m hurdles, with victories for Jacob Paul in 51.21 seconds (secs) and Tyri Donovan (52.72secs).

Newcomer Jamail Clarke clocked 49.04secs for second place over 400m, with Ridvaan Omer fifth in the B race with a personal best (PB) of 52.38secs.

Marvin Tchangwa, 18 and in his first British Athletics League competition, finished fifth in the 800m with three minutes and 3.4 seconds (3:03.4).

Peter Moreno played the part of team captain with second place in the 110m hurdles with 14.38secs.

Nathan Ditton had his first run in a couple of years to finish fourth in the B string 3,000m steeplechase with 10:32.8.

Oscar Wiking, 16 and making his British Athletics League debut, took fifth place in the high jump with a PB of 1.85m. Moreno was back in action in the B event, finishing as runner-up with 1.80m.

The pole vault had Abraham Melbourne appearing with fourth place in a PB of 4.20m, with Euan Bryden third in the B string on 3.20m.

Irish international Ben Fisher was then on the long jump runway and placed third with 7.06m.

The meeting ended as it started, on a high for WSEH, with second place in the 4x400m relay on 3:22.8.

Team commitment will need to significantly improve for the next match in Leigh, Lancashire in June if WSEH are to ensure that their Division One status is secured.

The young athletes are in action with at match at Poole, Dorset in the Under 13/15 UK Athletics Division One Youth Development League this Saturday.

On Sunday, WSEH play host to the second match in the Southern League Division One series. The match at the Thames Valley Athletics Centre in Eton commences at midday.
