A PAIR of broken down cars on the M60 has caused delays in both directions.

Traffic officers were called out to the two incidents at around 4.30pm when breakdowns in the clockwise and anti-clockwise lanes caused severe disruption.

The first instance saw one lane closed anti-clockwise from around Junction 11 for the A57 Liverpool Road (Barton) to Junction 10 for the B5214 Trafford Boulevard (Trafford Centre).

Congestion was reported as far back as Junction 13 for Worsley. One lane was closed until around 5.20pm, causing disruption for commuters.

All lanes were reopened but traffic was still moving slowly until around 5.45pm.

On the opposite side of the motorway a separate breakdown between Junction 12 (Eccles Interchange) and Junction 13 for Worsley caused further delays.

One of the four lanes was closed and Highways England reported congestion back to Junction 8 for Carrington.

Traffic was released around 5.35pm after recovery vehicles moved the car.
