THE Thames Valley Football Development League held the first of its two Festivals of Football with more than 30 teams participating at Arbour Park on Sunday.

The day began with the finals of the Under 9s competitions. Taplow United Youth Clarets beat Marish Wizards Whites 3-1 to win the Cup while Thames Valley Youth defeated S4K Wolves 2-1 in the Trophy.

In the Vase final, Cookham Dean Dynamos beat Delaford Colt Whites 4-2. The closest final was in the Plate competition where Burnham Juniors Lynx Blues drew 1-1 with Boyne Hill Falcons. In the ensuring penalties, Boyne Hill won 3-1.

The U7s finals were held next. In the Cup competition, FC Explorers Reds beat Delaford Colts Blues 13-4 and, in the Trophy competition, FC Explorers Blues defeated 4YourFuture 6-0.

The Plate final saw a close match between Burnham Juniors Blues and Harefield United Youth, with Burnham edging it 3-2.

The Vase final was also close with S4K Lions beating FC Explorers Purple 2-1.

Following these finals, a festival of matches was played for the other U7s teams.

In the early afternoon, the U10 Cup final between Ickenham Youth and Taplow United Clarets was an excellent match with both sides displaying fine attacking and defensive skills.

Taplow took the lead early on but Ickenham fought back and took the advantage with two goals in quick succession.

The Clarets equalised with an excellent long range free-kick but Ickenham soon scored again to take a 3-2 lead and, despite some heavy pressure, they were able to hold on to full-time.

The final game of the day saw Maidenhead Warriors take on Slough Town Juniors in the U13 Cup final.

Slough scored goals either side of the half-time whistle that knocked the wind out of the Warriors’ sails.

Slough added a third goal from the penalty spot midway through the second half and got a fourth just before the full-time whistle.

The second of the Festivals is being held this Sunday.
