Update

The tree that fell onto a car on the A308 between Old Windsor and Egham on Monday morning was on private land it has been revealed.

A man died at the scene of the accident after the tree fell on the silver Lexus car he was travelling from Old Windsor towards the Runnymede roundabout at 4pm on Sunday.

The four other occupants in the car, a man and three women, were taken to hospital where they are receiving treatment for minor injuries.

The dead man's identity has not been revealed yet. This will happen when an inquest is formally opened on Monday next week.

A spokesman for Surrey County Council which is responsible for the roads said: "This was a tragic incident. The tree was on private land and the police are leading the investigation."

The Windsor Road is a vital link between Berkshire and Surrey, as cars head from Windsor through the Runnymede riverside area towards of Egham and Staines.

The road leads straight onto the Runnymede roundabout which also gives access onto the M25 and has recently been completely redesigned.
