A Sonning care home celebrated its 10th birthday with a special event on Saturday, January 19.

Sunrise of Sonning, on Old Bath Road, welcomed guests for a fun afternoon, complete with bucks fizz and freshly-made canapes.

Singers also attended to provide entertainment as guests and dignitaries, including deputy mayor Bill Soane and deputy mayoress Hilary Soane, arrived.

Keynotes speeches were made by Sunrise's UK CEO Dr Natalie-Jane Macdonald, Sunrise of Sonning's general manager Carmela Magbitang and their first ever staff member and current lead concierge Wendy Ladds.

Care home staff and residents were also thrilled to invite Linsay from Alzheimer's Research UK along to present £3,823 to the charity by way of a giant cheque, which was raised by the community during 2018.

All charity prizes and gifts were sourced by Yvonne Dick, concierge and prize organiser at Sunrise of Sonning.

Residents, staff and guests followed this up by singing happy birthday and tucking into a cake hand-made by Sunrise’s Kevin Crook and decorated by concierge Linda Jones.

Nathalie McLeish, director of community relations at the care home, said: “We were thrilled to celebrate our 10th birthday at Sunrise of Sonning with such a wonderful afternoon.

“We had well over 100 people in attendance, from family members, staff members, local businesses and prospective families to, of course, our lovely residents.

“I hope we provided a fitting tribute to everything we have achieved over the past ten years, and we look forward to celebrating many more birthdays to come.”
