A TEENAGE motorcyclist has been rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries after a 'serious collision' in Thatcham.

Emergency services have warned motorists to avoid Lower Way, which is closed between Tarn Howes Close and Jubilee Court.

Thames Valley Police appealed for witnesses to come forward after a blue Yamaha motorbike collided with a silver Mercedes on the junction with Pound Lane at around 7.30am.

The incident, which happened on Monday morning, is likely to close the road for another few hours.

The motorcyclist, a 17-year-old boy from Swindon, was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford with life-threatening injuries and is believed to be in a critical condition.

Police have advised residents to avoid the area, with no pedestrian access available at this time.

The female driver of the Mercedes was treated by paramedics at the scene.

No arrests have been made in connection with the collision.

Police constable Gareth Miles, at Three Mile Cross, said: “Sadly, this collision has left a young man in a critical condition in hospital.

“I am appealing to anybody who saw the collision, or witnessed the manner of driving of either vehicle prior to the collision, to contact police.

"Likewise, if you have any dash-cam footage of the collision, please make contact with us.”
