The Mayor of Wokingham has opened the market towns only bookshop by cutting down a red ribbon.

Wokingham Town Mayor Julian McGhee-Sumner officially opened the Waterstones bookshop at the weekend Saturday, December 8.

Cllr Julian McGhee-Sumner declared the bookshop open by cutting down a red ribbon at the new Peach Place development, where the shop is located.

Becky Ashley, Wokingham Waterstones Bookshop Manager said: “It’s wonderful to be opening our bookshop in time for Christmas. We’re looking forward to bringing some seasonal cheer, meeting our customers and helping everyone to find Christmas presents for friends and family.”

The celebrations continued after the ribbon cutting with wine and mince pies to welcome the bookshop to the community. The opening of the Waterstones store means the town now has a specialist bookshop for the first time since the closure of Bookends in 2017.

The shop is on the ground floor and stocks a hand-picked range of books, stationary and gifts.
