The council’s library technology roll-out is now complete after a self-service kiosk was installed at Bracknell central library.
It is hoped £400,000 will be saved from the introduction of the ‘open+’ technology, which allows users to borrow or return books, use computers, pay for printing and settle fines.
Councillor Iain McCracken said: “We made a promise to our residents that none of our libraries would be closed. I’m delighted that not only are all of our nine libraries now up and running with our new self-service kiosks, but in the near future we will be able to extend the opening hours.
“This technology has been put in place to provide an efficient library experience for visitors, allowing them access in a more effective way. It also allows staff more time to carry out other duties, such as organising events for residents to enjoy and ensures our libraries remain a social hub within our communities.
“As our second phase gets underway with Open+, we look forward to providing a library service that is even more accessible for all our library users.”
