PHILANTHROPY and fun joined forces at Lunch4Life’s Glitter Ball held at the Wentworth Club in Virginia Water.

The evening raised about £30,000 for three good causes: Ashford & St Peter’s Hospitals Charitable Fund, Prostate Cancer UK and the Fight Breast Cancer Charity.

Guests included broadcaster Victoria Derbyshire, ballet superstar Wayne Sleep and Bruce Forsyth's widow former Miss World Lady Wilnelia Forsyth.

A piper heralded the arrival of almost 200 guests to the newly refurbished Wentworth Club for a lively champagne reception.

Lunch for Life committee member Lorna Ponti spoke about the aims of the charities and expressed the committee’s gratitude for the generosity of the donors and guests who made the evening possible.

Then Duncan Newton, the evening’s MC, began the fun with a Heads & Tails game and presented the prizewinner with a voucher for the 3 AA Rosette La Belle Epoch restaurant.

After the three-course dinner, Marc Thompson enthusiastically presided over a live auction that included something for everyone, from a dozen decorated cupcakes to a seven-night stay in Barbados. Bidders also vied for an impressive range of silent auction prizes.

Lorna Ponti said: “I am touched by the loyalty of our supporters, and equally pleased to welcome new guests each year. Wayne Sleep wowed our guests by taking to the dance floor first, pirouetting as only he can and bringing back memories of his dance with Princess Diana.”

The Lunch4Life committee is made up of Lorna Ponti, Sally Collier, Andrea Grima, Mary Mitchell, Zara Redhead, Marian Reynolds, Helen Salmon, and Karin Small. Anyone wishing to make a donation or wanting more information can contact the committee through www.lunch4life.co.uk.
