The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are expecting baby.

A statement from Kensington Palace this morning said: "Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Sussex is expecting a baby in the Spring of 2019.

"Their Royal Highnesses have appreciated all of the support they have received from people around the world since their wedding in May and are delighted to be able to share this happy news with the public."

The couple - whose wedding as Prince Harry and Megham Markle at St George's Chapel in Windsor attracted unprecedented crowds to the town in May - are currently touring Australia.

The announcement was made as they arrived in Sydney at the start of a 16 day tour that will also take in New Zealand.

The Queen is understood to have been told when members of the family gathered for Princess Eugenie's wedding on Friday.

The Australian tour is the couple's first official royal tour since their wedding. Their first engagement is tomorrow.
