A serving Surrey Police officer has been suspended and remanded in custody following a breach of bail offence.

Sergeant Matt Taylor, 30, who was based at Camberley Police Station was arrested and charged in September last year for an allegation of coercive control. On arrest he was placed into a restricted non-public facing role.

On December 21 he appeared at Basingstoke Magistrates Court and pleaded not guilty. A trial date was set for July 2018 and he was released on conditional court bail.

On March 23 he was re-arrested for breach of his bail and appeared at Southampton Magistrates Court and as a result has been remanded in custody and suspended.

Surrey Police said this information was not released at the time of the original charge in September 2017 due to concerns for the welfare of the victim.
