The frightening national increase in knife crime has hit Runnymede's corner of Surrey with a brutal attack over the weekend.

A man was stabbed multiple times in Eastworth Road, Chertsey on Saturday evening.

The attack happened at 7.30pm as dusk fell.

A police statement said: "An incident involving a group of people took place, resulting in a man being stabbed. The victim, a man in his 30s, is in a serious condition in hospital."

Detective Sergeant, Kate Hyder, of the Criminal Investigation Department, said: “We believe that there are a number of people who would have seen something that can help our enquiries and I appeal to those people to call us as soon as possible.

“This is a serious incident but we do believe it was isolated and there is no wider risk to the public.”
