The new design for the new war memorial at Virginia Water has been on display in the library this week to give the public a chance to have its say.

The memorial stonework was removed and put into storage last year in order to improve car parking near the station.

Now a new memorial is planned featuring the stonework from the original WWII memorial and new stonework with WWI names, to be installed in time to mark the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War, November 18.

Chris Hunt, head of community development at Runnymede Borough Council, said: "Runnymede remembers the huge contributions made during the war and it is important to create the right lasting monument for those who wish to pay their respects."
