CURRENTLY celebrating its 25-year anniversary, Bracknell theatregoers were given the chance last week to see this musical tour-de-force, and what a stunning night's entertainment it was.

This production was the school edition of the show, presented by MasterAct, part of the Royal Berkshire Academy of Performing Arts, and performed entirely by students under the direction of original London cast member Peter Polycarpou.

Students they may have been, but it's hard to imagine that a professional cast could have given a more polished, dynamic or riveting performance than these young people, who gave us their heart and soul.

Samuel Nunn met superbly the challenges of the demanding role of Jean Valjean, dominating the stage with his physical presence and wonderful singing voice.

Jenny Huxley-Golden was delightful as Eponine, expressing tenderly the pathos of her role, while Jamie Boshier and Ailsa Hutchinson were lovely as the young lovers Marius and Cosette.

Also much enjoyed were Michael Ayiotis and Lizz Harman, bringing some welcome light relief and a wonderful rendition of one of the favourite songs in the show Master of the House.

All those incredible songs were here that we all love - I Dreamed a Dream, sung beautifully by Kate Reynolds as Fantine, One Day More, Bring Him Home, Do You Hear the People Sing, all performed under the baton of musical director Ron McAllister.

This amazing cast thrilled us and moved us as they took us along this extraordinary journey with them. Truly magnificent!
