WEEKEND ROUND-UP
ICE HOCKEY
THE Bracknell Bees returned to form with a maximum-point weekend.
Claude Dumas' side finished January with four straight defeats, but they turned the corner this week with dominant wins over the Romford Raiders and Sheffield Scimitars.
The Bees travelled to Romford on Saturday and made light work of their rock-bottom opponents to run out 7-2 victors.
Dumas started the ball rolling with two goals in the opening period before going on to claim a hat-trick. Two goals from Jaroslav Cesky and one each for Callum Best and Nicky Watt then completed the rout.
On Sunday the Bees made it a four-point weekend with a 3-1 win over Sheffield.
Cesky, Carl Graham and Michal Pinc scored the goals as Bracknell moved up to eighth in the league.
FOOTBALL
BRACKNELL Town slipped to their 14th straight Southern League defeat on Saturday as they remain rooted to the bottom of the Division One (S&W) table.
David Tuttle's side drew a blank for the eighth time in 10 games as they went down 4-0 at home to Yate.
The Robins kept their opponents out for 20 minutes before Adie Adams broke the deadlock. He then doubled the lead on 40 minutes, before Yate made sure of the win in the second half.
Zayne Simpson and Russ Church were both on target in the last 15 minutes as Bracknell sunk to another disappointing defeat.
* A clinical second half performance saw Sandhurst Town romp to a 5-1 win at Croydon in the Combined Counties Premier Division.
The hosts took a 43rd minute lead through John Gladwin, but the Fizzers came storming back after the break with Dan Simmonds, Danny Wilde, John Palmer, Louis Hibbert and Johnny Fisk all getting on the scoresheet.
* Make-shift striker Ryan Millward scored a crucial brace for Binfield on Saturday as Steve McClurg's side came from behind to beat Pegasus Juniors 2-1 in the Hellenic Premier Division.
Calvin Thomas rescued a point for Ascot United with a last-minute strike in a 3-3 with Carterton.
The Yellamen finished the game with nine-men and were also on target through Tim Standing and Andy Lunn.
* In Hellenic One East, Finchampstead drew 1-1 with Rayners Lane, while Wokingham & Emmbrook won 2-0 at Kintbury.
RUGBY
BRACKNELL RFC's National Three London promotion bid is hanging in the balance after they were beaten on Saturday in a must-win showdown with fellow high-flyers Old Albanians.
The St Albans outfit ran out 23-8 winners at Lily Hill Park, which has seen them open up a 15-point gap over Ken Hopkins' side in the table.
Third-placed Bracknell do have two games in hand on their rivals, but they will almost certainly have to win all 10 of their remaining fixtures to give themselves a chance of securing a top-two finish.
Matt Surman scored a late consolation try on Saturday and Jervis Manupenu scored a penalty as Bracknell were undone by two second half Albanian tries.
