Exiles win international showdown

LILY Hill Park warmed up for the new rugby season with a special international treat on Saturday.

The Scottish Exiles - an under 20s outfit made up of Scots living south of the border - went head to head with Belgium under 20s side at the home of Bracknell Rugby Club.

Belgium are ranked 15th in the world at under-20 level and are in England on a summer training camp. They entered the game as strong favourites, but were on the wrong end of a 34-5 hammering at the hands of the Scottish representative side.

The Belgians managed to establish some good field position during the game but one or two errors, forced by a strong Exiles defence, restricted their attacking opportunities.

The Scottish side got a strangle-hold on proceedings as time went on and showed a great deal of attacking flair by using the full width of the field and running strongly with ball in hand.

The Exiles - formerly known as the Anglo-Scots - are now in their fourth year and are used as a feeder team to the Scottish under-20s side.
