DIRECTOR of Rugby Declan Kidney is hoping to take London Irish’s supporters ‘on a journey’ as they aim to return to the Gallagher Premiership at the first time of asking.

Exiles were relegated after just one season back in the top flight, but Kidney and head coach Les Kiss – who both joined the club in March – are optimistic ahead of the new campaign.

Despite losing a host of players including two-time World Cup-winner Ben Franks, young prodigy Joe Cokanasiga and wing Alex Lewington, Kidney is hopeful of a successful season after adding nine new signings to his squad.

He commented: “It’s very important we make the supporters feel proud of their team.

“The players, management team, off-field staff and the board are doing everything they can to ensure the highest standards are maintained, with the ultimate aim of making the supporters feel part of our exciting journey.

“London Irish is famous for its fantastic fanbase, the craic and the connection between the club and its supporters is unique.”

Kidney continued: “We are looking no further than our next game, but it will be great to walk out at the Madejski Stadium in front of our home supporters.

“Every game in the Championship will be tough, but we’re all relishing the challenge and with the backing of our supporters, we will be giving it our best shot.”

London Irish begin their campaign with a trip to Ealing Trailfinders on Saturday, September 1.
