Ian Davies bagged a hat-trick on Saturday

BINFIELD boss Mark Tallentire paid tribute to his new-look strike force after they fired the Moles into the FA Cup Qualifying Round for the time in their history.

Last year’s top-scorer Ian Davies scored a hat-trick as the Hill Farm Lane side twice came from behind to beat Crawley Down 3-2.

His namesake Carl Davies - who joined in the summer from Woodley - was also a constant threat throughout. And Tallentire believes he may have unearthed a great partnership.

He said: “These two boys are going to be a handful all year, whoever they play against.

“The first goal was just made in Davis land, they made it themselves. Carl’s fantastic run and ability to work the channels opened them up. He put in an absolutely fantastic cross and Ian has popped it in.

“You can’t ask for much more and I’ve got nothing put praise for the pair of them. They are a handful.”

Binfield, who lost their only previous FA Cup match last season, got off to a nightmare start when Wes Millis put Crawley in front after only 25 seconds.

Ian Davies found the first of his equalisers with 12 minutes gone. And he notched his second five minutes before the break to cancel out Nick Sullivan’s 20th minute strike for Down.

In the second half the tie looked to be heading for a replay until Davies completed his hat-trick with 10 minutes to play.

Crawley thought they had cleared the ball off the line, but the goal has awarded to earn the Moles a home tie against Camberley Town.

Overall Tallentire was over the moon with this side. He said: “I’m really proud of all the players, they’ve done us proud against what I consider to be a really good side.

“After the terrible start we had, to come through all that and to finally win the game - I’m very proud of every one of them.”
