SANDHURST Town paid a heavy price for squandering a number of first half opportunities in their FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round away to Deal Town where they crashed out 3-0.

“It was a disappointing result,” admitted manager Jon Underwood afterwards.

“We were undoubtedly the better side in the first half, but paid the penalty for not finding the back of the net.

“Our players put in the effort, but it was not our day.

“I shall be looking to bounce back to our league form,” Underwood added.

The Fizzers dominated the early exchanges with both Dan Simmonds and James Mepham just failing to find their touch in front of goal, as well as Louis Hibbert managing to loop his shot over the bar with the Deal goalkeeper beaten.

However, a minute before the break, Deal broke the deadlock when striker Mo Takaloo scored a controversial goal to send the home side in 1-0 up at halftime.

The turning point of the match came on 60 minutes when Mepham was picked out by a superb cross from Michael Murphy, his header looking a certain goal, only to be saved spectacularly by Brad Ashmore in the Deal goal. Within minutes Deal Town were 2-0 up after a goal from Roy Guiver.

Despite some changes from Underwood, Sandhurst were unable to turn it around and eventually lost 3-0 after a late penalty sealed their fate.
