Sandhurst manager Jon Underwood is delighted with the start his team has made.
SANDHURST TOWN hit the ground running in their opening game of the Combined Counties Premier season with an impressive 3-1 win over Epsom & Ewell.
Young Louis Hibbart grabbed a brace for the Fizzers while Gareth Rapley sealed the win with four minutes remaining.
Hibbart put the Fizzers ahead after 22 minutes when he converted a free-kick at the back post. The home side came close again shortly before the break and were the better side in the first half.
Sandhurst were 2-0 up three minutes into the second half when a clever pass by Dan Simmonds put Hibbart in the clear.
Epsom then fought back and forced a couple of fine saves from Asen Agov before Darren Smith drove home in the 59th minute. Sandhurst soaked up the pressure and slowly reasserted themselves, regaining the two goal advantage through Rapley.
Fizzers manager Jon Underwood said: “It was just the start we needed. I am very pleased with the first outing of the season. We played attractive and committed football which bodes well for the rest of the season.”
Sandhurst travel to Deal Town on Saturday in an extra-preliminary round of the FA Cup.
EVERSLEY got their season off to a flier with a 5-0 victory against a 10-man Chobham.
Despite the score it was Chobham who were clearly on the front foot in the first 20 minutes, forcing two excellent stops from the Boars keeper and twice hitting the woodwork.
Eversley recovered from their shaky start and took the lead on 27 minutes when Tristan Lewis dispatched a spot kick. Debutant Tom Collins put the visitors 2-0 up at the break after latching on to a Jordan Lee Brown through ball.
The second half saw an attempted Chobham fightback repelled by the excellent Will Neville and former England under 19 player Brown at the back.
The home side were then reduced to 10 men after an awful challenge on Dan Taylor and the Boars took full advantage of that scoring three times in the remaining 15 minutes.
Sam Scully, man of the match Craig Smith and a 30-yard screamer from Matt Stamp secured an impressive three points for the Boars.
