SANDHURST TOWN manager Jon Underwood believes his squad are stronger than last year and can challenge the top six in the Combined Counties Premier League this season.

With the season just two days away the Fizzers look in good shape with ex-Finch player Bobby Hogg and left-sided player Dan Bailey joining the ranks at Bottom Meadow.

Sandhurst begin their campaign at home to last season's fifth-placed side Epsom & Ewell and manager Underwood acknowledges it is a tough start but will be a good test of his team's strength.

Underwood said: "I'm happy with the squad. We are slightly stronger than this time last year and we definitely want to improve on ninth position.

"We want to break into the top six but that won't be easy."

The Fizzers responded well to their 6-0 demolition by Bracknell 12 days ago by convincingly beating Fleet Town 3-0 last Tuesday. Dan Simmonds (2) and Michael Murphy were on the scoresheet. However, they were held to a 1-1 draw against Wokingham & Emmbrook on Saturday.

Luke Lee was on target for the Satsumas, who start their maiden Hellenic Premier Division campaign on Tuesday with a trip to Kidlington.

Binfield - who were beaten 3-0 by Southern Premier outfit Windsor & Eton last Saturday - get their top flight campaign underway on Monday at home to Witney United. The Oxfordshire side finished five points and two places above the Moles last season in sixth.

Bracknell Town's first game in the Hellenic League following relegation from the Southern League last term sees them host Oxford City Nomads next Tuesday. Stuart Scammell's Ascot United travel to newly promoted Thame Town on the same night.
