Former chairman Rob Jones who stepped down last season

NEW chairman Bob Bacon has pledged to turn Binfield FC into a club for the community after taking up the reins this week.

The former club welfare officer was officially elected to his new role at the Moles' AGM on Sunday. And he was quick to reveal that he is keen to build on the work done by his predecessor Rob Jones.

He said: "I'm excited by the prospect, I think we've got a great club.

"I want to build on some of the things that have already been established and to continue to generate the spirit of one club.

"Hill Farm Lane is a fantastic facility and the future is that we will develop a new clubhouse. That gives us new facilities which will allow us to build on the work we have been doing with the community.

"Having achieved community status it is important that we do reach out to the people around us and offer them the facilities."

Elsewhere at the AGM, Ray Ryan was confirmed as the new vice chairman in place of Nigel Carpenter, who stepped down at the end of last season, while Dawn Pritchard remains as honourary general secretary and Graham Taylor continues in his role as treasurer.

The new chairman, Bacon, is keen to continue building on the club's excellent youth system. And he believes this will pay dividends in the senior ranks in years to come.

He said: "I think continued quality from the coaching is important. I want to see every age group have a proper FA qualification at a coaches level.

"And I want to see a lot of knowledge sharing throughout the club as well so that people can share experience and tell people what works and what doesnt work.

"I want to see the Allied Counties (youth) team pushing on the door of the reserve team and ultimately the reserve team players knocking on the door of Mark Tallentire and the first team."

Bacon is also predicting good things for the first team in the Hellenic Premier Division this season under new manager Mark Tallentire.

He said: "We've got a great manager. He's got a real buzz about him.

"I'm delighted that Mark has taken on the role, I'm delighted the way he has been working with the players. I think there is some great organisation this year.

"I'm really looking forward to the season starting.

"I think we'll have quality players on the pitch, a quality way of working and really build on the reputation we earned last year.

"We are a club that does things the right way."
