BRACKNELL Town FC have signed a glut of new players as the club step up their pre-season campaign.

Central midfielder James Hall and striker Nathan Christian arrive hot on the heels of former Finchampstead star Dean Thomas, right, and forward Ben Lydon.

And Robins' joint-boss Richard Whitty insists more could follow.

"We're starting to finalise the squad now," said Whitty. "It's a shame we only have one side because numbers have been incredible.

"We've had 30 or 40 guys in training so sadly we let some go who normally we would keep.

"But with no reserves team there is no opportunity for them."

Hall moved to Bracknell from the Midlands while livewire forward Christian has left East Berks Premier League outfit Burnham Beeches and switched to Larges Lane.

Thomas, meanwhile, bagged 10 goals in 27 league games for Finch in Hellenic League Division One East last season while Lydon comes from Reading Senior League Division One Champions South Reading.

Whitty and fellow joint-boss Steve McClurg believe they will provide the goals that were lacking last season during Bracknell's relegation from the Southern League into the Hellenic League Premier Division.

"Dean is a very good player who scores goals while Ben knows where the net is," stated McClurg. "I said we need more quality and that's what they bring."

The pair were on-fire last weekend with Lydon netting a hat-trick in a 5-0 friendly victory at Bucks FC.

Another new arrival, Callum Whitty, impressed at centre-back while two more ex-Finch players, Steve Ryan and Scott Birsall are also set to sign for the Robins.

Sadly, Bracknell lost their next friendly 3-0 at Ash United on Tuesday night, but McClurg insisted: "It was a good exercise, there were positives to take from it.

"We had 22 players with a different team in each half. We started really well and I was pleased with some of the things I saw."

Bracknell Town face Sandhurst Town at Bottom Meadow this Saturday (3pm ko) then travel to Feltham next Wednesday (7.30pm).
