FOOTBALL EXTRA
SANDHURST Town kicked off their pre-season schedule in style by holding Blue Square Premier opponents AFC Wimbledon to a 1-1 draw.
The Fizzers welcomed Terry Brown's side to Bottom Meadow on Friday for their first outing of the summer and it proved a good workout for them, particularly in the early evening sunshine.
Jon Underwood's men only had five training sessions under their belt but did well to salvage a draw after shipping a goal early on.
The Fizzers went behind in the first five minutes when the goalkeeper, in the eye of the bright sun, lost the flight of the ball and fumbled a cross over the line.
Manager Underwood said: "It was a bit of an unfortunate goal. It was very, very bright sunshine."
But Sandhurst plugged away and Mark Corbett equalised with 20 minutes to go with a good finish into the top corner.
Underwood was pleased with his side's performance against tough opposition and said: "We did quite well. It was a very competitive game.
"It was a good game for them and for us. It was good to have a club of that sort of stature playing against us."
He added: "We had a chance to have a look at a few new players. It was a case of giving everyone a bit of action."
* The Fizzers travel to Sidmouth at the weekend for the annual Sidmouth tournament which they will be hoping to win for the third year in a row.
BOARS EDGE YOUNG FINCH
A MUCH-changed Finch side were narrowly beaten 3-2 in their Whitchurch-Bennett trophy encounter against Eversley last week.
Eversley came from behind twice to edge out their rivals and retain the cup.
Finchampstead fielded a new look side featuring several reserves with only the Selby brothers, Pat and Steve, and keeper Perry Howard remaining from the first team.
The Hellenic side took the lead after half an hour when Pat Selby tucked in the rebound from Richard Kell's volley from the edge of the box.
Eversley fought back and snatched an equaliser in the 53rd minute but Finch's leading reserves goalscorer Lewis Frostick struck home after 72 minutes to make it 2-1.
The Boars' goals came courtesy of Courtney Amos and late a Tom Collins brace.
* THE Boars step up their pre-season programme with a match against Camberley Town at the John Madejski Academy on Saturday at 2pm.
TALLY HAPPY WITH MOLES
NEW BINFIELD boss Mark Tallentire feels every player got something out of their opening pre-season win over Fleet Spurs on Saturday.
Jack Tallentire, Ian Davies, Tim Walsh and the returning Garry Sargeant were all on target in a 4-2 win against Neil Baker's side.
But Tallentire believes the most important thing is the workout his side got.
He said: "It went very well. We had 16 players and it was not about picking the best team but it was about giving the players a good 45 minutes to blow the cobwebs away after our fourth pre-season session.
"It went really well and I would say every player got something out of it.
"In the second half Scott Hunter, Tim Walsh, Harry Swabey and Garry Sargeant came in and did particularly well."
BINFIELD: Adams, Partridge, Callaway, Havermans, Tallentire, Withers, Suarez, Wing, Rogers, C Davies, I Davies. Subs: Sargeant, Swabey, Walsh, Hunter
