BINFIELD sent out a message to the rest of the Hellenic League this week by making the first big transfer coup of the summer.

New manager Mark Tallentire swooped to add prolific Woodley Town striker Carl Davies to his squad on Tuesday evening.

The former Cardiff City and Barry Town hitman scored 61 goals in two seasons at East Park Farm.

And Tallentire is confident the Welsh front man will be pivitol in helping the Moles improve on last year's eighth place finish in the Premier Division.

He said: "I have been looking at him for a few months. And he got in contact with us to say he would be interested in signing.

"We are delighted to have him on board. He is a quality player. Everyone in football around here knows about his ability.

"Next season is all about consolidation for us. We have a good squad and we are looking to improve on last season.

"Bringing in fresh faces like Carl will help us do that."

Since taking charge of the Moles last month Tallentire has already secured the services of a number of Binfield's top players for next season.

But it is the link-up between Carl Davies and his namesake Ian Davies - who notched 19 goals in 19 games last term - which has the Moles boss buzzing.

The pair have already been dubbed 'The Double Ds' by the Binfield website and Tallentire said: "Ian Davies did very well for us last season and Carl Davies will link-up well with him.

"What I do know is that we are not going to struggle for goals, which is a good situation for a manager to be in."

Carl Davies notched 25 goals for Woodley in the Division One East last season. And he has set his sights on matching that having stepped up to the Premier Division.

He said: "I want at least 25-goals. It's a higher standard of football and Binfield have the ambition to go higher. Within two years they will be challenging to go up. I like the set up. It's like a big family and everyone knows each other by their first names."

Davies, 23, has fond memories of Woodley and has no regrets staying last season despite having offers from the likes of Bracknell Town and Reading Town.

He said: "I had a great first season at Woodley when we won the league and the cup."
