Wokingham & Emmbrook 'A' suffered a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Woodcote Stoke Row in the Berkshire Senior Cup final on Friday.

The Satsumas were looking for their third Senior Division scalp at the Madejski Stadium and put on a display worthy of a victory, but they could not find the goals their play deserved.

Wokingham went behind to a Ross Weatherstone goal after 12 minutes when the striker found himself unmarked in the penalty area and fired the ball past Kieron Penglase.

Woodcote had the better of the first half and Wokingham had Penglase to thank for keeping his side in it at half-time.

But the players responded after the break and were painfully close to scoring on several occasions, including a Michael Davies shot that just skimmed the cross bar.

Manager John Davies said after the game: "We did ourselves proud but I felt we deserved something from the game. But I can't complain at the final result. I got everything that I asked from the lads.

"In the second half we were terrific. We created wave after wave of attack and we did everything but score. The Woodcote defence were terrific, they really put their bodies on the line."

The 'A' team finished third in the Premier Division and just lost out in the semi-final of the Reading Challenge Cup to Finchampstead Reserves in a penalty shoot-out.
