BRACKNELL Town chairman Tony Hardy has hit back at former boss Kerthney Carty for "sticking in the knife" following the team's relegation from Southern League Division One South West.
Carty sensationally quit the Robins just two games into the campaign following a disagreement over the playing budget.
He was replaced by current boss Dave Tuttle but Town's fate was sealed more than a week ago after a campaign of struggle both on and off the pitch.
However, Carty's controversial comments in an exclusive interview with the News last week clearly angered the club's top-brass.
Hardy fumed: "Our former manager bides his time until we can't finish outside the bottom two and then decides to stick the knife in and get back at us.
"Local football people were disgusted by what he did to our club and to rake up old coals now is totally unacceptable.
"To drag this up right at the end of a very difficult season for Bracknell is merely a cheap dig at the board of directors."
Carty claimed he was 'misled' by Bracknell over the funds available and the size of his playing budget.
He walked out on the eve of a league fixture and later sought advice from the Professional Footballers Association regarding the manner of his departure.
However, Hardy insisted: "We made a statement when he left us in the most inappropriate circumstances.
"Whatever his argument is, I want to stress the budget was made clear to him before he joined.
"The fact it wasn't what he wanted to hear may have led to his alleged disappointment.
"But there was never any suggestion of us acting improperly so I don't see where he's coming from."
And he added: "He walked out after two games with little to no notice. He went the Friday night before a game which left us in a very, very difficult situation.
"We know he consulted the Professional Footballers Association, though I don't know what he expected to get out of that because the vast majority of managers at this level aren't under contract.
"So how he felt the club had misled him is a total sham."
