Scammell eyes three points at Marlow

ASCOT United supremo Stuart Scammell says that the three points are the only things that matter when the Yellamen take on old Reading League rivals Marlow United on Saturday.
Ascot make the short trip to Buckinghamshire to take on the side they beat in the 2006 Reading Senior Cup final at the Madejski Stadium.
Since then United have gained two promotions, following Marlow's path from the Reading Senior Division to the Hellenic Premier Division.
But while Scammell admits it is always nice to reignite the old rivalry, that will be the last thing on his mind come Saturday.
He said: "In some respects we have mirrored what they have done over the years and have have been following them up the divisions.
"There is a rivalry that goes back to the Reading League, but none of that will matter on Saturday.
"It wouldn't matter if we are playing Marlow or Reading Town, or anyone else.
"The important thing for us is that there are three points up for grabs. And when you are in a situation like we find ourselves in at the low end of the table, you need to make the most of every game.
"We have 11 games left and we know what we have to do."
Last weekend United, who have played more games than any other team in the Premier Division, had the luxury of a fixture-less weekend.
Scammell took the opportunity to give his players, who were unbeaten in games heading into Wednesday evening's home clash against Witney, a well-deserved break.
He said: "If we didn't have a game on Wednesday evening we probably would have got the players in for training last Saturday.
"But there is a lot of football still to be played and we used the opportunity to give the players a rest."
* STRIKER Dean Thomas has left Ascot United to return to Hellenic Premier Division leaders Reading Town.
The former Bracknell Town striker brought a good deal of experience to the United strike force. But Scammell feels his squad are more than capable of dealing with his loss.
He said: "We've got other lads that can slot in there. Andy Lunn and Rob Saunders played in central midfield last week, but both of them can play up front.
"We've got half a dozen guys that play up front with Zac Spencer, young Tom Semadeni, Richard Mills, Jon Bennett and Simon Knight as well as Rob and Lunny.
"So it is not something we are worrying too much about."
