ALEX Fettes stole the show as AFC Ascot started life in East Berkshire League Division Two with a 7-1 win over Cippenham Sports.

The striker scored four goals in what was his full league debut for AFC Ascot, who were rocked by the news that their second top scorer from last season, Paul Clement, will be missing for at least the first month of this season through injury.

While Fettes proved to be clinical, arguably the goal of the game came from another league debutant in the form of central midfielder, Stuart Atha.

Fettes and Jon Gant had already made the score 2-0 in a dominant first-half showing before David Easton set up Atha for a shot from outside of the area that beat the keeper before dipping under the crossbar.

AFC conceded on the counter-attack towards the end of the first period but, despite three substitutes threatening to destabilise the team at the break, did not look back in the second.

Four goals were struck without reply through Fettes, who bagged a second-half hat-trick, and Matt Panton.

Ascot travel to Taplow United Reserves in the Berks & Bucks Junior Cup this Saturday (2.30pm ko).
