Simon Myles is unavailable for this weekend's big clash

FRUSTRATED Wokingham skipper Rukshan Soza cursed his side’s luck after their clash against Division One basement boys Windsor was abandoned due to rain.

Wokingham were set to name a full-strength side last weekend and were strongly fancied to beat rock-bottom Windsor at home to pull further away from the relegation zone.

However, it is a different story this coming Saturday when Soza will be forced to make several changes for a crucial trip to Thatcham Town, a side they have never lost to in the league.

Wokingham go into the match at Brownsfield in eighth place with just five points separating them from Thatcham directly above.

But Soza complained: “It was very disappointing that our game against Windsor got rained off.

“We had good availability and a strong side which should’ve got the better of Windsor who are at the bottom of the table.

“Now this weekend against Thatcham we are once again minus our most experienced players Simon Myles and Dan Reddyhough which is bad luck on our part.”

With three games to go any of the bottom five teams in the division could still go down, including Wokingham and Thatcham.

When they met at Wokingham earlier in the season the hosts triumphed by six wickets, with Sathpath Kelum taking 5-39 and Reddyhough hitting 90.

And if Soza’s side go on to complete the double over Thatcham it would dramatically improve their survival chances.

“Traditionally we have done well against Thatcham and never lost a league game against them,” declared Soza.

“It is now the business end of the season and we need to collectively take responsibility in making sure that we play to our maximum potential and collect the points required to remain in this league.

“A win against Thatcham will ensure that.”
