BRACKNELL continued their assault on the Division 5a title with a comfortable four wicket victory over bottom side Hillingdon Manor 2nds.

Bracknell remain 14 points clear of nearest rivals OMT, who thrashed Kidmore End 2nds by nine wickets.

The Larges Lane side won the toss and inserted Hillingdon into bat on what looked like a very challenging pitch.

Hillingdon made a good start and took advantage of some undisciplined bowling by the away side.

However, the introduction of Paul Dewick changed it for Bracknell as he bamboozled the Hillingdon batsmen into thrashing out the rest of their runs. Dewick took 4-31 in his 16 overs as Hillingdon posted a competitive 181-7 for Bracknell to chase down.

With the pitch offering plenty of bounce and turn, Hillingdon struck early to remove Bracknell’s skipper Ian Caffell for five.

But a dogged innings from Dave Fearnley (47) and the always destructive Hafiz Mahmood (46) steadied the ship.

New boy Ross Johnson put in a useful 12 runs alongside Dewick’s unbeaten 51 to steer Bracknell home to 183-6 and another 20 points on the board.

Bracknell captain Caffell was delighted with the team’s effort this week, in particular Dewick, who made a half century and took four wickets. He said: “I’m pleased and happy that we produced a team effort to seal this victory. It also demonstrates that this side is not as one dimensional as people might think.”

He added: “Although I was never in doubt that we could chase down Hillingdon’s total, we did wobble in the middle. Paul had a match winning influence on the game, with both bat and ball and his knock was extremely important.

“With the season’s end in sight and four games to play, I have fervent desire and a hope that we win all four and crown our success as division champions.”

Expectations will be high once again as Bracknell take on Sonning 2nds with a full-strength team on Saturday.
