WOKINGHAM blasted out of the Division One relegation zone this week with their third win of the season against rock-bottom Maidenhead & Bray.

Rukshan Soza's side jumped two places to fourth bottom after a confident six-wicket win. And - having extended their unbeaten run to four games - the former Home Counties side have put themselves in with a good chance of beating the drop.

On Saturday skipper Soza once again showed his incredible knack for winning the toss and - against some advice from his teammates - decided to insert Maidenhead.

This decision was immediately justified when the Wokingham bowlers took four wickets in the first 16 balls to leave the visitors to Wellington Road reeling on 2-4.

Simon Myles and Sathpath Kelum both took two of those early wickets and kept M&B on the back-foot as they struggled to 15-4 after 14 overs.

Even an expensive two over spell by Stuart Hayter, that saw Wokingham ship 38 runs, had a silver lining as he took the wicket of impressive Maidenhead skipper Ryan Bezuidenhout.

Kelum returned for another excellent spell to finish with 5-23. And Myles also impressed with a miserly 10-over outing that saw him take 3-10.

Sanjay Jain also took a key wicket and Sam Hirst stepped in at wicketkeeper to good effect as M&B were skittled for a lowly 89.

Wokingham's response got off to a bad start when Soza went for just four in the opening over.

But, unlike their opponents, Wokingham put the early setback behind them with a solid partnership. Dan Reddyhough and Hirst put together a 57-run second wicket partnership before the latter departed for 19.

Reddyhough's knock of 42 put Wokingham within touching distance of victory and Hayter finished off the chase in a resounding six-wicket win in just 21 overs.

Next up for Wokingham is title-chasing Amersham, who moved up to second place after beating Thatcham last time out.

With Wokingham just eight points clear of the bottom-two, another professional performance will be necessary.
