A TREMENDOUS mid-innings bowling spell by Eversley was to no avail as they crashed to a 70-run defeat by Marlow in Division 2a.

Eversley were still searching for their first wicket 27 overs into their innings as Marlow produced a resolute opening partnership of 147 without loss.

However, the introduction of Noel Brett and Gareth Cummings mid-innings proved fruitful as they took nine wickets between them leaving Marlow on 246-9 after 52 overs. Brett produced a superb display to finish with figures of 6-59.

Marlow's decision to bat first was fully justified when openers Graham Paskin (77) and Nick Paskins (70) put on a tremendous opening stand before both were bowled out within the space of two overs.

Eversley captain Shane Green (pictured) was confident of chasing Marlow's target but difficult batting conditions meant they were skittled out for 176.

The only notable contributions were from openers Tom Kemp (36) and Phil Wise (44) while Jack Sever added a useful 25 right at the end of the innings. The pick of Marlow's bowling attack was spinner Lee Atkinson who claimed 6-74.

Green said: "It was their opening partnership that won it for them.

"We changed it up and brought in Brett and Cummings who slowed it down a lot. They kept it tight and forced Marlow out. In the second half we were brilliant.

"It was a bit disappointing that we couldn't chase 245," he added. "It was very difficult to bat on the turning pitch with a good spin bowling."

Eversley will hope to get back on track against Ascot this weekend after falling down to fourth behind Finch 2nds.
