EVERSLEY skipper Shane Green is calling on his side to put a winning streak together to challenge for the title after seeing his side slip to a three-wicket defeat to North Maidenhead.

Eversley remain third in Division 2a having lost ground on rivals Fleet and Datchet who both won at the weekend.

Shane Green's men were put into bat on a soft wicket but the team dealt with the conditions admirably to finish with 206-8. Opener Phil Wise laid the foundations with a decent spell at the crease (33 off 111) and was joined by Aussie ace Geoff Isaacs (32) and Ben Saville (33).

Green rejuvenated the innings smacking three sixes en route to a 45-run total.

"It wasn't disastrous," admitted Green. "It was a much better batting performance. We batted hard and all the top four or five got to 30.

"We thought it was a competitive total.

"But we definitely had the worst of the batting conditions, the ball was moving around all over the place."

Maidenhead's James Stewart (49) and Mirban Saleem (37) got off to a decent start but were pegged back by Noel Brett and Richard Bucknall who worked well together to pick up three wickets apiece. However, the pair were unable to stop Maidenhead reaching the target with three wickets to spare.

Commenting on the bowling, Green said: "Bucknall bowled really well and with Noel Brett at the other end, they put a lot of pressure on them but it just wasn't enough."

He added: "We've got to put a run together if we want to challenge for the title. Our batting is getting better and our bowling is as good as it was."

Eversley face a crucial few games with the first of those away to Marlow followed by a home tie to Royal Ascot.

Unfortunately the in-form Bucknall will be missing on Saturday alongside Matt Brown but 15-year-old Andrew Lazenbury returns to the side, fresh from his half-century for the 2nds.

And he will be joined by Gareth Cumming's younger brother Tom.
