The inquest begins in the Bracknell defence after they shipped another five goals against Bridgwater last weekend.

Bracknell Town 0 Bedfont Green 1

BRACKNELL Town racked up another unwanted milestone on Tuesday night as they slumped to their 20th straight defeat at the hands of Bedfont Green.

The Robins could at least take some comfort from the fact that the losing margin was just a single goal after they shipped six, seven and five in their previous three games.

It looked like they might be on the receiving end of another heavy defeat early on as Green took a sixth minute lead when skipper Jim Ward powered home Chris Henry's corner.

However, that proved to be the end of the scoring as the game denegerated into a scrappy affair of few chances.

Paulo Cicero fired over for the Robins on the half hour mark, while Anton Small had another effort smothered in the second half, but that was all the Robins had to show for their efforts as they made it 27 defeats in 28 Southern League games this season.

Bracknell: Bradley, Bruce, Abbott (Poulton 45), G Smith, Elliott, Mudge, Cicero, Dean, Blatchford (Lavine 81), MacDonald (Forde-Small 61), Small. Subs: (not used): D Smith, Bradshaw.

FOR the second game running Bracknell paid the price for a slow start as they crashed to another heavy Southern League defeat last Saturday.

The Robins conceded three goals in the opening 16 minutes and trailed 5-1 at the break. They managed to steady the ship after the break, actually winning the second half 1-0, but the damage had been done by then as their miserable season shows no sign of letting up.

Bracknell boss David Tuttle must have stressed to his players the importance of keeping things tight early on, but those plans went up in flames after just 18 seconds as Bridgwater took a shock lead.

Steve Orchard took advantage of a defensive slip to lob the on-rushing Kyle Bradley to give the visitors the lead without a Bracknell player having touched the ball.

Things went from bad to worse for the Robins two minutes later as Marcus Duharty set up Graham Merceica for Bridgwater's second.

It was virtually game over after 16 minutes as the unmarked Jamie Price headed Bridgwater into a 3-0 lead, although Tom Mudge did pull one back with a fine header from Danny Blatchford's left wing cross.

Any hope Bracknell had of launching a fightback, however, was killed off before the break as Duharty and Matt Beadle both struck from close range to give Bridgwater an unassailable 5-1 advantage at half-time.

The Robins did manage to pull a second goal back a minute after the restart when Anton Small glanced home Chris Dean's inswinging set-piece but, after the bonanza of the first half, that proved to be the end of the scoring.

Small fired just wide for the hosts, while the dangerous Nat Pepperall missed two one-on-ones with Bradley after twice being put clean through.

Tuttle's side kept working hard to the end but the game had long since been lost as another depressing chapter was added to the Robins woeful season.

Bracknell will be hoping to add to their meagre three-point haul this week when they travel to Andover on Saturday, before entertaining Hungerford Town next Tuesday.

Bracknell: Bradley, Bruce, Abbott, G Smith, Elliott, Mudge (Poulton 88), Cicero, Dean, Blatchford, MacDonald, Small. Subs (not used): D Smith, Elamir, Lavine.
