Bracknell beat the Sheffield Scimitars last Sunday as the Bees enjoyed a perfect weekend.

THE Bracknell Bees produced one of their best weekends of the EPL season to stay in the play-off hunt.

The Bees gave themselves the best possible start to a push for the play-offs with only their second maximum point weekend.

They thrashed the Romford Raiders 7-2 in their own back yard and then beat the Sheffield Scimitars 3-1 at the Hive.

Bracknell are currently eighth, just in the play-off positions and only a point ahead of the Swindon Wildcats, although it looks like rock bottom Romford are out of the equation now.

"We know it's probably not going to be Romford, but Swindon are right behind us," confirmed head coach Claude Dumas.

"We have to keep our eye on Swindon but what we are aiming for is Sheffield and Peterborough above us.

"We are aiming to try to catch the next team, but we cannot control other teams, only our own results, we just need to get as many points as we can.

"We were hoping that there was a good possibility of points but we had to play good hockey to get them and we did."

However, it could not be harder for the Bees this weekend to keep their momentum going this weekend as they make the trip to league leaders Milton Keynes on Saturday (7pm) followed by a home clash against second-placed local rivals Slough Jets on Sunday (6pm).

Dumas remarked: "We have beaten both teams before this season but it doesn't get any tougher than first and second. They are there for a reason, they are the most consistent sides.

"We will have to be at our best but we are playing good hockey, if they are not at their best then we have a great chance because anyone can beat anyone in this league.

"Two points from the weekend will be great, but four would be perfect."

But Dumas is not going to use a gung-ho approach to the tough encounters, he commented: "Both of them have more firepower than us.

"If we play an open game against them and just exchange attacks then we will lose, we cannot play that type of hockey.

"We have to be on our game. It's important that we are patient but we also have to be hungry around the net and maybe take a few chances to get a result.

"You have to strike the right balance."
