A TRADITIONAL pub has being given a prestigious award for being one of the best in the region.
The Bull Inn at Barkham has been named runner-up Pub of the Year 2010 by the Berkshire South East branch of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA).
Branch chairman Nick Boley said: "This is a traditional country pub which offers good food, good beer and good cheer."
Adrian and Susie Brunswick took over the pub eight years ago after previously working as a chef and in strategic risk analysis respectively. They also took over The Spring pub and restaurant in Sulhamstead in September, with Mr Brunswick working there and Mrs Brunswick primarily at The Bull.
Mrs Brunswick said: "I feel very chuffed and very proud that we have got the award. It is nice to get recognition for all our hard work and effort. It is long hours and hard work and it's nice to be given something to show people appreciate it."
She said that the pub serves home made food, including home-made pies, sausages and jams, as well as serving a selection of ales. She added: "It is very much a traditional pub."
The Bull also won CAMRA's pub of the season award in 2007. As previously reported in the News, this year's Pub of the Year award went to the Jack O'Newbury in Terrace Road North, Binfield.
The Bull in Barkham Road has a quiz night at 8.30pm on the last Sunday of the month.
