Tools stolen from van
THIEVES who stole an electric saw and other tools from a van are being sought by police.
A blue Toyota Hiace van was targeted on Wednesday at 10am when it was parked in Knowle Grove, Virginia Water.
The thieves damaged the passenger side door to gain access to the van before stealing the saw, a battery and battery charger as well as hand tools.
The incident was part of a spate of thefts that happened across the area on Wednesday including in Chertsey and Addlestone.
Runnymede Crime Reduction Advisor Elizabeth Robinson said: "When tools are stolen it can cause a great deal of stress for the owner, particularly if they are self-employed. Apart from the hassle of trying to replace them it is often very costly and can provide a major blow to small businesses.
"There are however a number of steps van owners can take to deter thieves, including removing their tools and work equipment if their vehicle is unattended for a lengthy period.
"Leaving tools inside a secure lock box in a van may seem like a good idea but is not advisable unless you also have a security cage; there have been a number of thefts where the thieves have simply taken the entire box."
